The End of Crises or Just the Beginning?

What will it take to get our attention?

God is bombarding our nation with spiritual signs, but we let them pass us by.[1] Crisis after crisis comes, yet we continue unaffected. We fashion ourselves a favored nation; we end our political speeches with ‘God bless America.’ But is God showing us His favor?

Think about the plagues of the last 12 months alone. The energy crisis gives us $4 a gallon gasoline; wars in Iraq and Afghanistan linger at the cost of billions; floods, hurricanes, droughts, and fires ravage our lands. What will it be next?

And don’t think the financial crisis making headlines this week will go away anytime soon.

How foolish we are. Major financial institutions are failing not because of a lack of regulation, but because of the greed of our people, the greed of corporations to fatten the bottom line and the greed of me and you to have the biggest house and nicest car on the block. So, to ensure we don’t have to suffer for our evil and foolishness, we cover it up with billions of dollars of more borrowed money, much of which comes from foreign powers.[2]

The Right Use of Your Noggin

When should we let our brains decide what is true about the world? After all, God gave us a brain (I know this is debatable, but allow me some latitude here), and it is only natural that He wants us to use it. Nobody could argue with this.

Ray and his family believe.

2 Names and 2 Numbers: Does God exist and does it matter to me? Part 2

[This is the second part of a 2-part article. Click here for Part 1. Also, Biblical passages and other important points are hyperlinked; click to read them.]

What’s the Cause like?

As with the two-by-four, we can deduce some characteristics of our Cause by observing the universe itself. In other words, by noticing characteristics about the universe, we can draw some detailed conclusions about the Cause who brought it all about. Here are a few:

  • The universe is incredibly vast, therefore the Cause must be unbelievably powerful
  • The universe demonstrates remarkable complexity, therefore the Cause must be, not only intelligent, but super-intelligent
  • The universe shows a tremendously diverse array of life, plants, and heavenly bodies, therefore the Cause must be immeasurably creative
  • Life on earth is built to sustain life, therefore the Cause must be loving
  • Humanity shows an inner moral sense, therefore the Cause must be a moral being[1]

2 Names and 2 Numbers: Does God exist and does it matter to me? Part 1

[This is the first of a two-part article. To read Part 2 click here.]

Let me start this article by asking you a simple question: What is God’s first name? Or, what was the first name God gave Himself in the Bible? Let me show you an interesting portion of the Bible that gives us the answer. Keep this passage in the back of your mind as this article progresses. We’ll make an interesting tie-in at the end; see if you can figure it out before we get there.
